UNICO National is the largest Italian-America service organization in the U.S. The name UNICO translated from the Italian language, means "unique", "one", "only", or "only one of its kind. Additionally, the letters are interpreted as U- Unity, N-Neighborliness, I-Integrity, C-Charity, O-Opportunity. UNICO was first organized in Waterbury, CT in 1922. The Farmington Chapter was founded in 1970. Fundraisers including the annual Italian Sunday Dinner, Taste of Italy Wine Tasting and Joe Filomeno Memorial Golf Tournament make it possible for Farmington UNICO to grant scholarships to local high school graduates and grants to local charities and service organizations.
