Digital Scanning for Future Generations

Barney Project approved for Referendum on November 4, 2008
The request for the Barney Library Renovations and Additions Project’s inclusion on the November 4th 2008 ballot has been unanamously approved by the Town Council at their August 5th meeting. The scope of the project includes: accessibility, Mechanical Systems, added program space, Electrical, data and refinishing to the interior and exterior of the building. There is a small bump out which is shown on the plot plan. This addition of space will provide for emergency egress, an elevator serving all three levels, and a children’s programming room on the second level. The exterior of the building will be painted white while the physical characteristics of the 1959 modern addition will be modified and improved to recapture the period of the original structure. The building is owned by the FVGLA which voted at its July 17th, 2007 meeting to go forward with this project and appointed a qualified building committee, secured a $1,000,000 State Library Construction grant, and appointed a fund raising committee charged with a $1,000,000. Capital campaign. The total budget is estimated at 3,000,000: with 1,000,000 from a state grant, $1,000,000. from Gifts and bequests, and $1,000,000. from referendum.
